If you’ve been craving something loud, fast, and just a little unhinged to soundtrack spooky season—Weatherstate have got you covered. The Weymouth punks are back with their brand new single ‘fear’, and it’s everything you’d want from a band that’s made chaos sound cathartic.
Clocking in as a sharp, electrifying burst of energy, ‘fear’ is Weatherstate at their most urgent. It’s heavy, fast, and full of the kind of tension that makes your heart race—in the best way possible. “Fear reflects the claustrophobia of your own mind—the fight-or-flight tension we all feel in an uncertain world,” explains vocalist and guitarist Harry Hoskins. “The heavier, faster nature of the song is our response to that feeling, like a needle threatening to pop a balloon. But there’s an adrenaline rush in there too, something exciting and positive.”
And that adrenaline absolutely translates in the track’s music video. Shot handheld-style and inspired by The Blair Witch Project, the video brings that eerie, DIY horror vibe to life—complete with shaky cameras, woodland dread, and a sense of impending doom. It’s punk rock meets found-footage fright, and it works so well.
This release follows on from last year’s ‘Hellbent’, which marked the band’s first original music since 2022’s Never Better. That single came during Weatherstate’s 10-year anniversary celebrations—a decade spent carving out a sound that’s both punchy and personal. ‘Hellbent’ tackled burnout and self-doubt, but ‘fear’ channels all that into something wilder, louder, and more defiant.
Weatherstate have always nailed that sweet spot between thrashing guitars and relatable honesty, and ‘fear’ proves they’re not slowing down anytime soon. It’s a short, sharp shock to the system—a reminder that sometimes, the best way to face your fears is to scream straight through them.
