Detroit’s own UNWELL are stepping into a whole new era, and if their latest single “Craven” is anything to go by, they’re doing it with a fire that’s impossible to ignore. The track is the third taste of their upcoming album Allegoria, due out November 7th via Pure Noise Records, and it’s the kind of song that doesn’t just play in your headphones—it claws its way into your chest.

Unwell – “Craven”

Frontman Matt Copley describes “Craven” as a cathartic release, written for the kind of person who hides behind bluster and ego. It’s sharp, unapologetic, and filled with the kind of bite you want from a band who refuse to sugarcoat their message. “It’s about the kind of person who hides behind anger, ego, and loud words, hoping no one notices their fear,” he explains. “This song gave me the space to finally say: I see through it. And I’m done.”

That raw honesty is exactly what makes UNWELL so compelling. They’re not interested in sticking neatly into one genre box—pop-punk, alt-rock, hardcore—this band has a little bit of everything, and they make it work in a way that feels bigger than the sum of its parts. If you’ve seen them live with bands like The Used, The Amity Affliction, or Bearings, you already know how effortlessly they balance massive riffs with moments of aching vulnerability.

With Allegoria, they’re building something much more than a record. Copley calls it “a world of symbols—a collection of stories where each song stands as its own parable.” It’s medieval tapestry meets modern wounds, weaving together stories of love, loss, addiction, and redemption in a way that feels cinematic and alive. Just looking at the tracklist—with titles like “Throne of Velvet Roses,” “Magna Carta,” and “Armor”—you get the sense this isn’t just another album drop. It’s an invitation into UNWELL’s world.

The band themselves are quick to lean into that sense of myth-making. Gothic castles, opulent thrones, cosmic backdrops—it’s all part of the vision they’ve crafted, one where everyday struggles are turned into something larger-than-life. And honestly? It works. When you press play, you don’t just listen—you step into Allegoria with them.

If “Craven” is the warning shot, then November can’t come soon enough. UNWELL have carved out a space that feels fresh, fearless, and completely their own. Whether you’re a die-hard fan or just stumbling into their world now, Allegoria looks set to be one of those records that sticks around—and demands to be played loud.
