Buffalo’s own Spaced aren’t wasting any time making their mark. The hardcore crew have just signed to Pure Noise Records and announced their new EP No Escape, landing October 17th. If you’ve been craving heavy riffs with a psychedelic twist, this is one you’ll want on your radar.
To kick things off, they’ve dropped the lead single “Cause and Effect” alongside a video that stars comedian Ian Fidance. It’s the kind of track that doesn’t tiptoe into the room—it barges in, knocks over the furniture, and then invites you to scream along. The guitars shift from pounding gallops to phased-out chaos while Lexi Reyngoudt’s vocals cut through with raw urgency. She puts it best: “We’re told to be quiet and just obey but we really should be fighting back and speaking our minds.” That’s the energy of Spaced in a nutshell—loud, unapologetic, and impossible to ignore.
Spaced have always described themselves as “far out hardcore,” and it’s easy to see why. They mix crushing heaviness with unexpected textures that feel almost psychedelic, but without ever losing that pit-starting bite. No Escape takes what they’ve been building since 2021 and dials everything up. Producer Jay Zubricky (Every Time I Die, Terror, Age of Apocalypse) helps capture that energy perfectly, keeping things gritty but adding just enough atmosphere to set them apart.
The EP’s lyrics dive into frustration, exhaustion, and the daily grind, but instead of wallowing in it, Spaced turn it into a rallying cry. Reyngoudt explained how the songs reflect feeling suffocated by life’s constant pressures while still finding strength in the hardcore community. That balance—anger and hope, heaviness and freedom—gives No Escape a pulse that feels very much of the moment.

With five tracks, including “Dog Bite” and “How Did It Come To This?”, No Escape is shaping up to be a short, sharp shock of an EP. And if you’ve seen Spaced live, you know these songs are going to hit even harder when you’re shoulder-to-shoulder in a packed room. The band are already fixtures in the hardcore underground, but with Pure Noise backing them, this could be the release that puts their name on a lot more lips.
Preorders are open now, and you can check out “Cause and Effect” everywhere streaming lives. Trust us—you’ll want to hear this before the EP drops in October.
