Public Opinion are back with another taste of their upcoming album, sharing brand new single “When Kevin Gets Free” alongside an accompanying music video.

The track is the latest preview of The Curse of Public Opinion, the Denver band’s second album, which arrives on August 7 via SideOneDummy. It follows previous single “Balloon Man Running” and continues the rollout for what looks set to be a big year for the punk outfit.

Formed out of Denver’s hardcore scene in 2020, Public Opinion have steadily built a reputation for blending punk rock, garage rock and hardcore influences into something that feels both raw and anthemic. For their new album, the band teamed up with producer Brett Romnes, whose previous work includes records from Anxious, I Am The Avalanche and Hot Mulligan.

Speaking about the album, vocalist Kevin Hart explained that many of the songs come from a place of frustration rather than polished self help messaging.

“A lot of bands make music about feeling bad but they’re so dialed in. I think our message is a little more messy, but a lot more human,” he said.

“At the end of the day I’m kind of a quiet, angry guy. I don’t explode, I implode. So when it comes to the songs I don’t try to stop all that from coming through.”

The Curse of Public Opinion lands on August 7 and features ten tracks, including a guest appearance from Vinnie Caruana on “Modern Convenience”. Alongside the album announcement, Public Opinion have also been keeping busy on the road, recently touring with Drug Church and White Reaper. The band are currently out on a run of US dates with Squint before joining Sparta later this year.

If “When Kevin Gets Free” is anything to go by, Public Opinion aren’t interested in sugar coating anything right now.
