Alright, this one feels big.

As Everything Unfolds have officially announced their new album Did You Ask To Be Set Free?, landing April 10 via Century Media, and it already feels like one of those records that’s going to sit with people for a long time. To mark the announcement, they’ve dropped a brand new single, Gasoline, and honestly, it’s the kind of track that pulls you straight into the album’s headspace.

Gasoline dives into that intense, confusing bond you sometimes feel with another person. You know the one. The connection that feels instant, overwhelming, and slightly terrifying all at once. Vocalist Charlie Rolfe describes it as that twin flame feeling, the push and pull between wanting to run and wanting to give in. It’s emotional without being overbearing, explosive without losing control, and it perfectly sets the tone for what this album is shaping up to be.

What makes Gasoline even more interesting is how the band have tied it visually to Bram Stoker’s Dracula, drawing inspiration from the relationship between Dracula and Mina. It’s that idea of destined love that’s equal parts magnetic and destructive, and it fits the song’s themes uncannily well. If you’ve seen the video, the homages to the 1994 film aren’t subtle, and that’s very much the point.

The album itself sounds like it was written in pieces of real life rather than neat chapters. Did You Ask To Be Set Free? is rooted in grief, trauma, escapism, and the slow realisation that hiding in fantasy only works for so long. The band have described it as a journey that moves from comfort and creative flow into loss and numbness, before gradually finding momentum again. There’s no tidy ending here, just honesty.

Lyrically and sonically, the record shifts as it goes, mirroring real emotional change rather than fighting it. Themes of addiction, burnout, fractured relationships, and self sacrifice weave throughout, all framed around the idea of maladaptive daydreaming. Is it protection, or is it a trap? And when freedom finally presents itself, do you actually want it?

With twelve tracks including Denial, Set In Flow, Reverie and Setting Sun, this feels like As Everything Unfolds at their most self aware and fearless. If Gasoline is any indication, this isn’t just a new era for the band. It’s a confrontation.

April 10 can’t come soon enough.
