There’s something in the water out in San Francisco—and it’s got a punk snarl. M.U.T.T., the latest powerhouse to rise from the ashes of the critically acclaimed Culture Abuse, are back with a vengeance and a new single that pulls no punches. “Toughest Street In Town” is the title track from their upcoming album, and it’s a dirty, hook-laden ride through the rawest corners of the Bay Area.

M.U.T.T – Toughest Street In Town

Formed by John Jr., Matt Walker, Isa Anderson, and Shane Plitt, all alumni of Culture Abuse, M.U.T.T. doesn’t mess around. Their sound? Think Ramones-core meets sleazy California dive bar—quick, chaotic, and catchy as hell. Their 2022 debut Bad To The Bone already made waves in the underground, but with Toughest Street In Town set to drop June 20 via Quiet Panic Records, the band is doubling down on everything that made them stand out.

This isn’t just punk for punk’s sake—it’s a street-hardened love letter to the city that shaped them. “I don’t fear my neighborhood—I’m inspired by it,” frontman John Jr. says. “Some people wouldn’t last a week. That’s why I love it.” And you can hear every ounce of that grit in the music.

The single channels the raw energy of early Joyce Manor, the sleaze of Appetite-era Guns N’ Roses, and the bite of the Circle Jerks—all while sounding like it could have been recorded in the back of a bar bathroom (in the best way possible). It’s fast, loose, and full of attitude. No polish. No pretense. Just pure punk.

Recorded at Atomic Garden Studios with Jack Shirley, this track is just a taste of what’s to come. M.U.T.T. might not be trying to save punk—but they’re definitely keeping it alive, loud, and reckless.
