Footballhead are clearly done easing into anything — because their new single “Used To Be” drops with the kind of confidence that tells you this next chapter is going to be big for them. It’s the second taste of their upcoming album Weight of The Truth, and honestly, it already feels like a statement.
The track opens with a riff that grabs you straight away, the kind of hook that makes you instantly sit up and go, “Alright, here we go.” Guitarist and vocalist Ryan Nolen said it’s one of his favourites on the entire record, and it makes sense. There’s a punch and personality to it that hints at the band sharpening their sound without losing what made people connect to them in the first place.
Behind the scenes, “Used To Be” was also a bit of a lightning-in-a-bottle moment. Drummer Andrew Smith described it as the song where everything finally clicked in the studio — one of those rare writing sessions where every idea keeps topping the last. You can hear that energy in the final track. It feels alive, collaborative, and fully locked-in.
What’s exciting is how much this song hints at the scale of what’s coming next. Footballhead had a huge run in 2025 — tours with One Step Closer and Superbloom, shows with Hot Mulligan, Drain, Taking Back Sunday, Senses Fail, Sweet Pill, and a debut at Riot Fest — but “Used To Be” feels like the band looking forward, not back. It’s tighter, bolder, and more assured, the kind of single that sets the tone for an album built to reach further.

And if you’ve been following Footballhead since Overthinking Everything, you’ll know they’ve always been able to balance melody, grit, and heart. This new release feels like them taking all of that and pushing it harder. If “Used To Be” is the opening door to Weight of The Truth, then this album is shaping up to be one of the most exciting early releases of 2026.
