Philadelphia melodic punk trio FILM have officially released their debut album Permanence via Lauren Records, and there’s a lot more behind this record than just a first release!

The seven track album features members of Algernon Cadwallader, The Starting Line, and Halfway to Holland, with the lineup including Ken Vasoli, Joe Reinhart, and late drummer TJ DeBlois, who passed away unexpectedly in 2023. Originally recorded during a single session at Headroom Studios back in Spring 2022, the songs were initially intended as demos before taking on a much deeper meaning following DeBlois’ passing in January 2023.

Rather than rework or polish the material, Vasoli and Reinhart decided to leave the recordings exactly as they were played, preserving the raw energy and chemistry of the session. Reinhart summed it up simply by saying, “The production is the lack of production,” while Vasoli added that the most raw moments in music are often the ones worth preserving most.

Previous singles “Roundabout” and “Rings True” gave fans an early look into the project, while new focus track “Blurry” continues that same immediate and unfiltered approach that runs throughout the record.

Although Permanence stands as the final recorded work of DeBlois, FILM are continuing forward in his spirit. The band have now brought in Chris Wilson, known for his work with Hammered Hulls, Ted Leo and The Pharmacists, and Titus Andronicus, as they prepare to take the album on the road.
