FILM have released their new single “Rings True,” the latest track from their upcoming debut album Permanence, which arrives May 22 via Lauren Records.
The track follows earlier single “Roundabout” and gives a more personal look into the sessions that shaped the record, which also stand as the final recordings from late drummer TJ DeBlois. The band, featuring Ken Vasoli, Joe Reinhart, and DeBlois, originally came together during the pandemic with no real pressure, just the goal of making something raw and instinctive. Those early sessions, recorded in 2022, would eventually become Permanence.
In 2023, DeBlois passed away unexpectedly at 38. After taking time away, the band returned to finish the project in his honour, choosing to keep everything as it was captured. The result is a record that documents both the band finding its footing and dealing with loss at the same time.
Speaking on the track, Vasoli explained the meaning behind it: “TJ named this one. He used to work in the kitchen of a popular Philly venue and told us there was a sign that said ‘rings true’ back there. I wrote the words surrounding the loss of TJ and processing that grief while trying to complete my end of the music. It’s very raw. TJ aced his performance, I’m grateful we have it captured here.”

“Rings True” is out now on all major platforms. Permanence lands May 22, with the band now moving forward alongside drummer Chris Wilson as they prepare to bring the songs to the stage.
