Basement are back with one more taste of their upcoming album, dropping new single “Head Alight” as the final preview before Wired lands on May 8 via Run For Cover Records. It marks the band’s first full length release in over eight years and their return to the label that helped shape their early run.
The UK alt rock favourites have been slowly building towards this moment, already sharing tracks like “Broken By Design” and “The Way I Feel.” Wired sees the band linking up with producer John Congleton and continuing as the same five piece that’s stuck together since day one, something that still sets them apart.
Speaking on the new single, vocalist Andrew Fisher explained how the track took on a bigger meaning during the writing process. “What started out as a love song quickly evolved into something a lot more ethereal,” he said, adding that shifting the focus away from a traditional romantic angle helped unlock a more expansive idea. He also noted how stripping the track back during production made it feel far more powerful.
With the album just weeks away, Basement are set to head out across Europe this summer and will also appear at All Points East in London this August, with more dates expected to follow.
