It’s been nearly 20 years since My Chemical Romance first marched into our hearts with Welcome to the Black Parade, and the emo national anthem has just hit a massive new milestone: it’s officially been certified 7× Platinum by the RIAA as of July 11, 2025.

MCR – Welcome To The Black Parade

That means over seven million units sold in the U.S. alone — not bad for a song about death, legacy, and eyeliner.

Released in 2006, “Welcome to the Black Parade” was never just a single. It was a movement. A rallying cry. A rite of passage for every kid who felt a little too much, wore too much black, or got goosebumps the moment that lonely G note hit. From Gerard Way’s theatrical delivery to the full-blown rock opera production, it redefined what emo could be — and dragged it kicking and screaming into the mainstream.

And somehow, nearly two decades on, the song just keeps growing. It’s soundtracked TikToks, inspired tattoos, and served as the unofficial theme song for entire generations of fans who still scream every word like it’s 2006 again.

Even better? Welcome to the Black Parade wasn’t the only MCR track certified that day. In total, eight singles from the band’s catalog were honored with new RIAA awards — all on the same day:

  • “Welcome to the Black Parade” – 7× Platinum
  • “Teenagers” – Platinum
  • “Famous Last Words” – Platinum
  • “I Don’t Love You” – Platinum
  • “Mama” – Platinum
  • “Disenchanted” – Platinum
  • “The Sharpest Lives” – Gold
  • “House of Wolves” – Gold

Whether you were there when the video first dropped on MTV or you’ve only just discovered it through your older sibling’s CD case (or, let’s be real, a TikTok trend), one thing’s for sure: Welcome to the Black Parade isn’t going anywhere — and neither is MCR’s legacy.

Legends don’t die — they just go Platinum. Over and over again.
