On January 29, the band dropped their Spotify Singles cover of Wonderwall, and while plenty of fans love it, not everyone is thrilled. Musician Todd Barriage—who’s known for his pop punk, emo, hardcore, and metal covers—has found himself caught in the crossfire, facing backlash over similarities between his version and the new release.
Oli Sykes took to Instagram to clear things up, sharing a message from Barriage himself. “Hey, man, I’m receiving some harassment from BMTH fans and fan pages. They’re somehow angry at me over the similarities between our ‘Wonderwall’ covers. It would mean a lot if you could shout out me and Loner Youth for inspiration on the cover. They won’t listen to reason, but they might listen to you,” Barriage wrote.
Sykes quickly backed him up, replying, “Of course, man,” and posting a message to fans: “FYI our WW cover was inspired by an idea FIRST imagined by Todd Barriage & Loner Youth. We have their blessing and they did it first, so please don’t give them sht. Just enjoy the music.”

Meanwhile, Liam Gallagher—who fans expected to hate the cover—completely surprised everyone. Instead of throwing shade, he gave it his stamp of approval: “I fcking LOVE it,” he wrote on X. And when a fan suggested he’d be mad, he fired back: “I’m not, it’s absolutely incredible, made my day. I’m off out on my skateboard fck y’all.”
Adding to the good vibes, all profits from the cover will go to the Teenage Cancer Trust. Plus, the band has another major moment ahead—they’ll be headlining Reading & Leeds 2025 alongside Chappell Roan, Travis Scott, and Hozier.
