As It Is have released a surprise new single, Live, Laugh, Love, Los Angeles, taken from their upcoming self titled album As It Is, which arrives on July 17 via FLG.
Interestingly, the band weren’t originally planning to release another track ahead of the album. In fact, Live, Laugh, Love, Los Angeles wasn’t even part of the original tracklisting. However, as events unfolded across the United States during the album’s recording sessions earlier this year, the song quickly took on a much bigger role within the record.
Speaking about the decision to release the track now, the band explained that news coverage and social media feeds filled with reports of ICE raids, political unrest and growing tensions across America made the song feel more relevant than ever.
“We weren’t planning on releasing another single before the album. In fact, this song wasn’t even on the original tracklisting,” the band shared. “The song was about Patty’s relationship with America and being an American in the current political climate, but with that added real world context it suddenly became even more urgent and essential.”
The release arrives as As It Is prepare to launch their first album as a full quartet in eight years. The self titled record reunites Patty Walters, Benjamin Biss, Alistair Testo and Patrick Foley, marking a significant new chapter for the band following years of lineup changes, personal struggles and time away from music.
Much of the album centres around reflection, healing and reconnecting with both their friendship and the reasons they started making music in the first place. According to the band, the record was written without the pressures that shaped previous releases, allowing them to focus entirely on creating music that felt honest and meaningful.

As It Is arrives on July 17. The band will also appear at Download Festival before heading out on a run of UK dates, including shows with Boys Like Girls and a series of album signing events across the country.
