Ray Hawthorne is spiralling again… and it sounds great.
The LA-based pop punk disruptor is back with his new single “Overwhelmed,” a fast, chest-tightening anthem that leans straight into anxiety, self-sabotage, and that feeling of pushing people away when you need them most.
Following “Somewhere Else” and his latest album Ray Hawthorne Isn’t Real, this track feels like everything he does best. Big hooks, messy honesty, and lyrics that hit a little too close if you’ve ever been in your own head.
At its core, “Overwhelmed” is about that contradiction of wanting help but not knowing how to accept it. Hawthorne captures that perfectly, turning those moments into something loud, catchy, and weirdly comforting to scream along to.
And then there’s… everything else. In true Ray Hawthorne fashion, the release also comes with one of the most unhinged explanations you’ll read all week, somehow linking the song to conspiracy theories about Jeff Probst being a vampire stealing life force from contestants. It’s chaotic, completely off the rails, and somehow still part of the charm.
Beyond the chaos, Hawthorne’s rise has been steady. From early solo releases like “Heartbreak Feels Good in a Place Like This” to albums like Ray Hawthorne Sucks and Ray Hawthorne Isn’t Real, he’s built a loyal following off the back of sharp writing and a personality that doesn’t really filter anything.
He’s also worked as part of North Kingsley alongside Shavo Odadjian, showing a completely different side to his sound. But this solo run feels like where everything clicks.
“Overwhelmed” is loud, messy, honest, and way too relatable. Exactly what you want from Ray Hawthorne.
