Vancouver pop punk band Chief State have released their new single “DAMN!”, the final preview of their upcoming album Keep Your Friends Closer, which lands April 17 via Mutant League Records.
Fast, punchy and full of energy, “DAMN!” feels like a statement track. It’s also a big moment behind the scenes, marking the first time the band wrote a song fully together as their current lineup.
That shift in approach seems to carry into the wider album too. Keep Your Friends Closer was produced by Tim Creviston, known for working with Spiritbox and Youth Fountain, and is set to showcase a more collaborative and fully realised sound from the band.
Chief State have been steadily building momentum over the past few years through constant touring and a growing fanbase, and this new record looks set to push them even further. The band have also confirmed a hometown show in Vancouver ahead of the album release, as well as a release show in May.
With “DAMN!” now out, it’s a final taste of what’s coming, and a clear sign that Chief State are stepping into a new era with this next album.
