Lavalove are back with new single “Never Better,” and it’s the kind of track you’ll end up shouting along to without realising.
The song lands ahead of their upcoming album Tan Lines, out April 3 via Pure Noise Records, and follows the release of lead single “Sniffin’ Around.” If that first taste set the tone, “Never Better” leans even further into the band’s confident, sun soaked indie rock energy.
Frontwoman Tealarose Coy describes it as hypnotic while trying to subconsciously convince your partner you’ll be their favourite ex. It’s dramatic in the best way. Built to be screamed at the top of your lungs in your bedroom, with an ending Coy calls her favourite moment on the entire album.
Tan Lines feels rooted in that Southern California freedom. Produced by Anton DeLost, known for his work with State Champs and The Warning, the record blends surf rock bounce with garage grit and indie sheen. There’s a clear nod to classic ’60s pop simplicity, but it’s filtered through modern alt textures that keep it feeling current.
Lyrically, the album circles around escape. Getting out of bad jobs. Bad relationships. Bad moods. Swapping all of that for late nights with friends and early mornings at the beach. It doesn’t ignore the heavier stuff. It just chooses joy over sitting in it.
The tracklist includes “Hopelessly Devoted,” “Go Go Boots,” “Working on My Way,” and now “Never Better,” with pre orders for Tan Lines available now ahead of its April 3 release.
With tour dates lined up across the US this spring, Lavalove are clearly stepping into a bigger moment. And if “Never Better” is anything to go by, they’re not asking for permission to do it.
