Midwest heavy-hitters Church Tongue have returned with their new EP, You’ll Know It Was Me, out now via Pure Noise Records. The six-track record dives deep into themes of love, loss, and self-discovery—all wrapped in the band’s signature mix of blistering riffs and raw intensity.
The EP’s title track, featuring Deafheaven’s George Clarke, serves as its emotional and sonic centerpiece. “I literally can’t believe George is on this song,” says vocalist Mike Sugars. “It’s the first track I wrote lyrics for, and I knew it had to be the title track. It’s about my wife—she’s the cornerstone of my joy.”

A Record About Love—But Not How You Expect
While You’ll Know It Was Me is a relentless assault of sound, its core theme is love in its many forms. “Love looks like a lot of things, and each track touches on it in its own way,” Sugars explains. “Loving yourself enough to walk away from toxic relationships, loving yourself enough to get sober, and of course, romantic love. This record had to be a Church Tongue record—it’s been in us for a long time.”
The EP features guest appearances from Colin Young (God’s Hate, Twitching Tongues), Crystal Pak (Initiate), and George Clarke (Deafheaven), each adding their own unique energy to the songs. “We shot for the stars, and it just clicked,” says guitarist Nicko Calderon. “Having these guests take the songs to another level was incredible.”

A Powerful Return
With You’ll Know It Was Me, Church Tongue are proving they’re a force to be reckoned with. Brutal yet deeply personal, the EP is one of the most emotionally charged releases of the year. “This record is exactly who we are,” says Sugars. “And we’re just getting started.”
