Liquid Mike have never sounded quite like this before—and that’s exactly why ‘AT&T’ hits so hard. The bittersweet new single from the Marquette, MI indie rock outfit wasn’t even meant to make the cut for their upcoming album Hell Is An Airport, but the moment it came together, there was no leaving it behind. Blown-out, distorted, and dripping in scuzzy swagger, ‘AT&T’ is a sharp left turn from the band’s usual palette—and it absolutely rips.

LIQUID MIKE – AT&T

Written just days before finalizing the album, vocalist/guitarist Mike Maple calls it his favorite track of the lot. And it’s easy to hear why. Instead of layering and polishing, Liquid Mike went with the raw demo take, letting all that fresh emotion boil over into a kind of accidental brilliance. There’s record scratching. There’s synth bass. There’s attitude. And at the core, there’s a tough-to-swallow feeling most of us have brushed up against—resenting someone for how they’ve hurt the people we love, only to realize they’re already lost in their own personal misery.

“It was inspired by an ugly breakup between someone very close to me and someone I had a lot of contempt for,” Maple shares. “But I realized… he was suffering enough. Just a lonely guy with no one to talk to but himself and the bugs in the wall.”

The single offers a tantalizing taste of Hell Is An Airport, out September 12th, an album Maple says explores life’s most liminal, anxiety-riddled spaces. Like airports—overcrowded, disorienting, and always halfway between a beginning and an end—this record leans into the disarray. It’s gritty, fast, sardonic, and as emotionally chaotic as it is hooky.

Liquid Mike are also hitting the road next month on tour with punk legends Descendents, and if ‘AT&T’ is anything to go by, their live shows are about to get louder, messier, and a whole lot more exciting.
