If you’ve been keeping even half an eye on the heavier side of the emo and hardcore crossover lately, chances are I Promised The World have already popped up on your radar. And if they haven’t yet, their new self titled EP might be the moment that changes everything.

I Promised The World – Proud

Out now via Rise Records, this release feels less like a debut moment and more like a statement of intent. It opens quietly with “Proud”, easing you in before the floor completely gives way. From there, it’s full emotional release. Screamo, Midwest emo and post hardcore all colliding without ever feeling forced or messy. Every track feels deliberate, like the band knows exactly where they’re heading and isn’t second guessing it.

You can hear it straight away in the performances. Caleb Molina’s cracked, aching vocals carry a weight that feels lived in, while Hunter Wilson’s harsher delivery adds a raw urgency that never lets things drift too far into comfort. Tracks like “A Pure Expression” and “Bliss In 7 Languages” hit that sweet spot where aggression and vulnerability sit side by side, while “Future Worth Dying For” constantly shifts gears, keeping you on edge in the best way possible. By the time “Emerald Waltz” rolls around, slowly building into its towering close, it feels like you’ve gone somewhere with them.

What makes this EP hit harder is the story behind it. The band was born out of grief following the loss of Molina’s father in 2020, and while that weight has always been part of their DNA, this record doesn’t feel stuck in that moment. Instead, it feels like defiance. Like choosing to move forward without forgetting where you came from. There’s a real sense of clarity here, of choosing intention over drifting and actively building a future rather than waiting for one to appear.

For a band that’s only been around a couple of years, this doesn’t sound like growing pains. It sounds like confidence. Like a band fully committing to itself and meaning every second of it. If this EP is a reset button, it’s also a warning shot. I Promised The World are very clearly just getting started.
