Seven years ago, State Champs dropped Living Proof, an album that felt like the moment they stopped being a scene favorite and started playing in the big leagues. Released on June 15, 2018, the record didn’t just carry the energy of their earlier work — it elevated it, polished it, and made it arena-sized without losing the punch.

Coming off the back of 2015’s Around the World and Back, expectations were sky-high. And while Living Proof leaned harder into radio-ready hooks and anthemic choruses, it never felt like a sellout move. Instead, it sounded like a band finding the sweet spot between Warped Tour grit and mainstream ambition.

State Champs – Dead And Gone

From the get-go, tracks like “Dead and Gone” and “Crystal Ball” hit with urgency, blending polished production with Derek DiScanio’s signature vocal delivery — equal parts angst and ambition. “Mine Is Gold” became a middle-finger anthem for anyone who’d ever had their worth questioned, while “Criminal” brought an infectious energy that begged to be shouted back in sweaty venues and festival fields.

State Champs – Crystal Ball

Part of what made Living Proof so memorable was its careful balance of pop punk fire and emotional depth. Songs like “Our Time To Go” and “Safe Haven” proved State Champs could slow it down without losing momentum, tapping into the kind of vulnerability that made the album feel personal for so many fans.

Behind the scenes, the album was a team effort. The band worked with multiple producers — including Mike Green (All Time Low, Paramore), Kyle Black (New Found Glory, Pierce the Veil), and even Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus — which added layers to the sound without making it feel disjointed. It was still distinctly them — just bigger, sharper, and more fearless.

Looking back, Living Proof wasn’t just another chapter in State Champs’ story — it was a defining one. It proved they could grow up without growing out of pop punk. And seven years later, fans still scream those lyrics like they just dropped yesterday.

Here’s to the album that made believing in pop punk feel like living proof.
