Okay, this is not a drill. Yellowcard’s very own Ryan Mendez brought some serious pop punk pride to the Fourth of July — by stepping out onto Ford Field and absolutely crushing the national anthem before a Detroit Lions game. Yep, that actually happened.

The band posted a clip of the moment on Instagram, shouting out Mendez’s Detroit roots — and honestly, it kind of ruled. You don’t expect to see one of the guys behind “Ocean Avenue” standing at midfield with an American flag flying and a full stadium cheering, but somehow it worked. The anthem never sounded so Warped Tour-coded.

There’s something fun about seeing these unexpected crossovers — the kind that makes you do a double take. It’s the Fourth of July, there’s football, and now there’s pop punk guitar solos echoing through a stadium. Kind of iconic.

Here’s hoping next year they just let him play a full set at halftime.
