Conor McGregor may be one of Ireland’s biggest sports stars, but that didn’t stop fans at Limp Bizkit’s recent show from giving him a cold reception. During the band’s March 11 performance at Dublin’s 3Arena, Fred Durst name-dropped the UFC fighter, only to be met with a chorus of boos from the audience.

McGregor’s Big Entrance (That Didn’t Go as Planned)

McGregor had hyped up his appearance at the concert earlier in the day, taking to social media to tease fans about his attendance. He even suggested he’d be “bang in the centre of the mosh-pit” and threw in a typically brash challenge: “If anyone’s looking for their jaw broke and their teeth sent.” Given his reputation for larger-than-life antics, many expected him to be the life of the party.

But when Durst gave McGregor a shoutout from the stage, the reaction was anything but welcoming. The frontman playfully said, “It sounds like you’re in love with Conor McGregor here,” which immediately triggered boos from the crowd. He followed up with, “I’ll be straight with you, from what I’ve heard, he’s actually out there right now.”

Why the Backlash?

McGregor’s relationship with his home country has been complicated in recent years. While he remains a national icon, his controversies—including legal issues and high-profile altercations—have caused a divide among fans. Some still see him as a proud Irish warrior, while others view him as more of a celebrity than a fighter these days.

His antics leading up to the event might have also rubbed people the wrong way. While Limp Bizkit shows are known for chaos and high-energy crowds, McGregor’s comments about breaking jaws probably didn’t help his case.

Fred Durst: Master of the Moment

To his credit, Durst played it cool, not letting the negative reaction kill the vibe of the show. Limp Bizkit has always thrived on unpredictability, and having an unexpected moment like this only added to the experience. Whether or not McGregor actually threw down in the pit remains unclear, but one thing’s certain: Dublin wasn’t giving him an easy ride that night.

It’s rare to see a hometown hero get booed on home soil, but McGregor’s larger-than-life persona has always been a double-edged sword. Limp Bizkit fans clearly weren’t in the mood for his usual bravado, and their reaction made that loud and clear. As for McGregor, he’s no stranger to controversy—so chances are, he’s already onto the next headline.
